Itinerary
FULL DAY ZURO LOMA ANTPITTA HIDES AND ALAMBI HUMMINGBIRD PARADISE
We will pick you up early in the morning around 5:30 am from your hotel in Quito area and drive towards Zuro Loma Reserve located in the North Western part of Quito. Along the way its possible to observe the Scarlet-breasted Mountain Tanager and Andean Pygmy Owl. Upon arrival to the reserve we will devote the first hour to explore the Antpitta nad Hummingbird feeders of the reserve for 2-types of Antpittas, the Chestnut-naped Antpitta and Equatorial Antpitta, as well as Tanagers and Sword-billed Hummingbirds.
Target Species: Black-chested Mountain Tanager, Scarlet-bellied Mountain Tanager, Grey-browed BrushFinch, Chestnut-naped Antpitta, Equatorial Antpitta, Andean Guan, Masked Flowerpiercer, Glossy Flowerpiercer, Southern-Yellow Grossbeak, Shining Sunbeam, Sword-billed Hummingbird, Great-Sapphirewing, Buff-tailed Coronet, Superciliated Hemispingus and others.
We will continue birding along Old-Nono Mindo Road for other andean specialties and slowly transitioning to the Western Cloud Forest. Then visit Alambi Hummingbirds Paradise, a spectacular garden with at least 12 species of Hummingbirds in less than 5 minutes, 2 types of Quetzals at close range, and Dippers near the shore’s river. After lunch explore the nearby trails of the reserve for possible Torrent Duck and Andean Cock of the Rock nests. Return to Quito and drop off at your hotel.
