Highlights of Yanacocha & Alambi Birding Reserve Tour:

We will pick you up early in the morning around 530am from your hotel in Quito area and drive towards Yanacocha Reserve located in the North Western part of Quito. Upon arrival to the reserve we will devote the first hour to explore the main feeders of the reserve to observe possible tanagers, antpittas, ocellated tapaculo and hummingbirds.

Target Bird Species: Black-chested Mountain Tanager, Scarlet-bellied Mountain Tanager, Grey-browed BrushFinch, Rufous-Collared Sparrow, Great Thrush, Andean Guan, Masked Flowerpiercer, Glossy Flowerpiercer, Southern-Yellow Grossbeak, Shining Sunbeam, Sword-billed Hummingbird, Great-Sapphire Wing, Buff-tailed Coronet, Superciliated Hemispingus and others.

We will continue birding the main trail of the Yanacocha Reserve for about 1 hour observing hummingbirds and possible the critical endangered Black-breasted Puffleg. After fully exploring the reserve and the hummingbird feeders we will enjoy a delicious lunch overviewing the Andes and Cloud Forest Region.

Target Bird Species: Sapphire-vented puffleg, Golden-breasted Puffleg, Buff-winged Starfrontlet, Sword-billed Hummingbird, Great Sapphirewing, Rufous Wren, Tawny Antpitta, Purple-backed Thornbill, Rainbow-bearded Thornbill and others.

In our last stop at Alambi Hummingbird Paradise, a unique place full of hummingbirds, tanagers and woodpeckers, will be perfect for unparalled photography and observing exotic bird life. Return to Quito in the afternoon.

Target Bird Species: Golden-olive Woodpecker, Buff-throated Saltator, Red-headed Barbet, Golden-headed Quetzal, Crested-headed Quetzal, Pallid Dove, Blue and Grey Tanager, Orange-bellied Euphonia, Thick-billed Euphonia, Purple-throated Woodstar, Brown Violetear, Sparkling Violetear, Lesser Violetear, Green-crowned Woodnymph, Empress Brilliant, Tawny-bellied Hermit, White-whiskered Hermit and others.
