Antpittas Reserve West Slope

The Antpittas and Andean Cock of the Rock Lek Reserve is located between Tandayapa Valley and Mindo Choco Corridor. In this reserve we can observe the Andean Cock of the Rock Lek, 5 different antpittas species at close range, hummingbirds, tanagers, toucans, woodcreepers, hawks, woodpeckers, finches and parrots. We can arrange this tour with Ecuador Birds Tours.

"My wife and I highly recommend Ecuador Bird Tours. We just completed a five-day four-night bird tour with Ecuador Bird Tours, which we added on last minute to a ten day Galapagos Island Adventure. We have participated in numerous bird tours with numerous large international tour companies and were initially reluctant to book a tour with a local company. We needn’t have worried. Our experience with Diego Cruz far exceeded our other experiences. We felt well taken care of and safe every minute of our trip. Diego’s personalized service and knowledge of Ecuador birds, history and culture was outstanding. He devised an exceptional itinerary, which gave us a wonderful overview of Ecuador in the short time we had. In our five days we covered five different habitats. One day we ventured high into the Andes to view the Andean Condor, Andean Duck, Andean Lapwing, Andean tit-Spinetail, Andean Gull, Shining Sunbeam, Sword-billed Hummingbird, Black-faced Ibis, and Tawny Antpitta, to name just a few. Another day we ventured to the rain forest on the east slope of the Andes and viewed 43 species of birds, including the Andean Potoo, Andean Guan, Tourmaline Sunangel, Long-tailed Sylph, Cinnamon Flycatcher, Turquoise Jay, Green Jay, and Grey-breasted Mountain-Toucan. Another day we visited the cloud forest of the west slope and viewed 51 new species, including the Dark-backed Wood-Quail, the Lyre-tailed Nightjar, Andean Cock-of-the-rock, the Crested and Golden-headed Quetzal, Toucan and Red-headed Barbets, the Chestnut-crowned and Yellow-breasted Antpittas, the Crimson-rumped Toucanet, ten species of tanagers, and thirteen species of humming birds, including the Booted Racket-tail, crowned Woodnymph, and Violet-tailed Sylph. Finally, the lodging at his family’s century-old Hacienda provided a beautiful and peaceful sanctuary to relax and contemplate the beauty of Ecuador and its remarkable birds. We were visited daily by countless Shinning Violetear and Black-tailed Trainbearer, as well as other beautiful birds such at the Giant Hummingbird, Saffron Finch, Golden Grosbeak, Blue-and-yellow Tanager, White-winged Brushfinch, Azara’s Spintelail, and Vermillion Flycatcher. We intend to return for a much longer stay". Bill and Ann, USA
